I've been terminally online for ~40 years, long before the big endless scroll. I've seen things some people wouldn't believe. 1200 baud modems on fire from Usenet flame wars. I watched c-news servers stutter at the mere mention of Kibo. All those moments will be lost in AI slop, like tears in rain. Time to deshittify.
Oh thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I have finally finished "The Nights Dawn" trilogy. 3168 pages officially, but on an e-reader it was many many many more. (yay for e-readers and being able to choose fonts and font sizes!)
I don't hate the series. The stories were hard to get into in places, some I liked more than others of course, but all were good in the end. The length of time it took me to get through it in tiny chunks was off-putting. I just don't have the concentration ability to plow through an entire book in one (or a few) sessions anymore.
@ZenHeathen yt doesn't let you monetize unless the video is at least x minutes long, I think. I do not watch much there, but when I do I skip forward a few minutes - see it's still preamble and other crud -- skip more --- ah, content.
Chipping away at reading a large book, third in its series. I both like the story lines and loath that it’s so huge in page count. It’s taking forever. (The Naked God by Peter F. Hamilton)
@aaronmeyers I remember decoding the background signs etc in legion of super heroes. It was just English in a whacky font. Lots of fun things labeled that way in the background.
@OddJob That's me, except with the soda pop from some fast food places. They might need to clean out their lines or something. Certainly clears mine out.
Startfleet Academy - spoilers - episode 1Starfleet Academy is most definitely a kids show. Well, for teens maybe?
No mention of remorse for blowing up the bad guy's ship in the first episode, cause that thing can't have been crewed only by the scavengers attempting to take the warp whatzits?
Let's just ignore that both the old and new StarFleet tend to be militaristic shoot-first-ask-questions-later and Public Relations filters to hide the wrinkled truth.
So, Starfleet Academy. I don't hate it. It has potential. It's no Strange New Worlds, or even Lower Decks, both I would like to have infinite seasons of.
