THIS is NOT a Quote Toot

This is just a link to the toot.

EDIT: unlike the new quote toots feature in 4.5.0 and later, here the original author receives no notifications and has no control.

If your client displays the content to you, great. It might even call doing this a Quote Toot, but it is
NOT a Quote Toot. More of a "toot preview". If you're running some fancy Mona or Ivory client great but well, just FYI.

Clear as mud?

@dannotdaniel If it smells like a quote toot, it is a quote toot. The weird consent quote thing Mastodon is faffing about with is ... weird. Whatever, carry on.

@scuttlebutt they look almost identical in the web browser on my instance as well which is a forked 4.5.2 called glitch soc

it's not functionally identical because the faffing about version gives the author lots of control and notifications whereas the other version does neither.

but if you want to tell the difference on looks alone the one with the RE is the quote. I didn't do that part although I suppose you could fake it...

@dannotdaniel I get all that and the desire / reasoning that went into the feature. Other software will adapt (or not) to the new way because of the juggernaut influence.

Ever look at the raw json of quoted toots? Some have the content in there two or three times to accommodate the mish mash of prior implementations and this is just another to add to that.

All very amusing from a “I’m glad I don’t have to code support for all that” viewpoint.
