AIX: Turn the key to service, put the monthly or weekly tape in, and push the reset button 2x. Follow the simple menu options to restore whole thing. Then I could connect via modem and pull the last day's data-only tar backup in and we're done.
SCO Xenix and Unix: Talk them through the entire install process using floppies. Talk them thru vi of a few files to enable the modem for dial in. Talk them thru modem init string sometimes. Finally, I could get in and restore data from tape and finish reconfiguring things properly.
SCO (with Lone-Tar backup): Boot from rescue floppy, put tape in, restore. Pretty nice!
