How many run time hours do you have on your drives? My desktop's direct attached thunderbolt array has about 72K hours (8+ years) under its belt. I run a scrub every 6 months or so and haven't found any bad blocks yet. It's also backed up on a regular schedule.

@scuttlebutt My office desktop is at 47K or so for both its SSD pair and its NVMe pair, both mirrored and ZFS and scrubbed regularly and etc. The home desktop (also mirrored) has fresher drives.

@cks Mine are spinning rust. Home use just isn't very stressful compared to servers that get hammered with databases and hundreds of virtual machines general io. I remember having cold spares sitting right in the colocation cages ready to pop in asap so the arrays would have time to recover by the time the vendor got around to bringing a replacement. Most weeks, even months, nothing failed. Other times we'd have a week where they were getting eaten like candy.
