@ZenHeathen @sundogplanets I wonder if an unplugged microwave would work as a faraday cage in a pinch?

Also, an unplugged hdd that is sitting on a shelf some distance away from any power or utility lines might be just fine in a Carrington event. Long lines of wire in the air are more prone to taking an induced field charge than anything else, is my guess.
